For about a month now John Krasinski, of The Office fame, has been posting videos on YouTube for his new series Some Good News. The show, as you can probably tell by the title, is about good news — something we could all use a little more of right now. In his fifth episode, Krasinski focuses on all the good things happening in the food industry.
“When this thing comes to an end — and it will come to an end — the first place you’re going to go is to your favorite restaurant,” Krasinski explains in his introduction to the episode. “[Restaurants] are not only some of the places that are being hit the hardest, they’re some of the places where you can find the biggest heroes.”
Krasinski goes on to talk all about the good things coming out of the food space. For example, Guy Fieri has created a fund for furloughed restaurant workers; and a woman in Boston, Joy Huang, baked 500 cookies for health care workers at Beth Israel hospital. And we cannot forget Jose Andrés’ charity, World Central Kitchen — a nonprofit that is actively providing hot meals to low-income neighborhoods in big cities that have been majorly affected by the coronavirus, like New York.
After that heartwarming segment, Krasinksi shared the answers to a question he asked earlier: What’s your top, go-to recipe you love enjoying or cooking up at home? He picked a couple of answers and then got help from his celebrity chef and restaurateur friends — like Guy Fieri, Martha Stewart, David Chang, and now master mixologist Stanley Tucci — to cook these chosen dishes for a special SGN potluck meal episode. It’s…well, the best thing I’ve watched in some time.
The whole episode is just so heartwarming, and a nice break from all the hard news right now. “Remember,” Krasinski said, “No matter how things get, there is always good in the world.”
