Over the last decade, Instant Pot, the electric pressure cooker, has found a permanent and coveted place in the American kitchen, becoming an essential tool for many cooks. It’s a particularly great cooking apparatus when money is tight: it makes quicker, easier work of affordable staples like rice and beans, and easily breaks down the flavorful value cuts of beef and pork. In kitchens where clean water and working appliances aren’t always a guarantee, it can be a safe, reliable tool.

Instant Pot saw how valuable their product could be for vulnerable families and those experiencing poverty, and have teamed up with the non-profit organization Save the Children to create the Instant Pot Challenge.

For every meal made in an Instant Pot and tagged #InstantPotChallenge on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok, the company will donate one of their Duo Novas to a family in need — up to a million dollars’ worth of Instant Pots. That’s 10,000 families that could be cooking up bean soups and mashed potatoes in their pots, thanks to folks snapping an Instagram of their dinner. The challenge runs from April 21 to June 15.

If you don’t yet have an Instant Pot, you can also just make a donation to Save the Children — even when not teamed up with a favorite kitchen gadget, the century-old charity is working to bring nutritious food to the children missing their free and subsidized meals during the current closures.
